Ballantrae registered fishing vessel Arcturus made an appearance at the public quay Holyhead on the 2nd of August. The 24 mtr beam trawlers visit is the first time for her to appear on the blog and is pictured below.

The close of July and beginning of August seen four cruise vessels appear at Holyhead, At the refit berth we had return visits of Variety Voyager and Corinthian, Whilst pictured below at the Orthios jetty we had Sirena on the 31st July and Saga Sapphire appeared at the jetty on the 2nd of August. Sirena is a 181 mtr R-class cruise ship of which many of her sister ships although not belonging to the same company have visited Holyhead, The most recent sister at Holyhead was Azamara Journey. Saga Sapphire a 199 mtr cruise ship made a return visit to Holyhead on the 2nd August after a long steam along the South coast from Dover.

Some pictures taken over the weekend of some new visitors not featured on the blog before, And also a returning vessel from the recent past. First two are smaller vessels which visited the marina on the 22nd July. Arriving in from Peel on route to South Wales, RNLB Edward Duke Of Windsor is a 14 mtr Trent class lifeboat which has been in the Trent relief fleet since commencing service in 1997. The Second vessel pictured arrived at the marina during the afternoon. The 2016 built 19 mtr Border force delta rib Nimrod. The returning visitor this time was at the Orthios jetty. Azamara Journey, Another larger cruise ship at 181 metres needs the larger berth at the outer harbour as the inner harbour at Holyhead cannot cope in depth or length of berths.

The latest cruise ship to appear at the former Rio Tinto jetty at Holyhead was Aegean Odyssey, The 140 mtr vessel arrived alongside what is now known officially as the Orthios jetty at 10:30. A great relief once the weather bettered on her second attempt to berth with all the excursions booked.

Lowered in at the boatyard on the 12th July a brand new pilot boat for Holyhead. Just over forty years ago to the day that the last vessel to carry the name St Columba entered Holyhead. This well loved name chosen for the pilot boat will continue to be heard for many more years around the harbour at Holyhead.

Holyhead has two new vessels that have entered the water recently. On the 10th July and with not much information at the moment about her, Harrier entered the water at the refit berth and is pictured below at the marina.

An early arrival at the port of Holyhead this morning being Mein Schiff 4 cruise ship. The 293 mtr vessel brings onboard 2800 passengers which have scheduled visits to numerous locations on Holy Island, Anglesey and North Wales until departure from the Rio Tinto jetty at 18:00.

Pictured berthed alongside the public quay on the 3rd July was the former Fleetwood registered Crusader. The 15 mtr fishing vessel shows some slight changes since i last pictured her here, Most notably port of registry now being Milford Haven a complete covered forward deckspace and minus a mast at her bow.

2nd of July saw the arrival of two cruise ships at two different berths at Holyhead. First arrival and to the Rio Tinto jetty just before 07:00am Saga Pearl II, The 164 mtr ship being assisted to berth by the St David. Second was another visit by Variety Voyager, The 67 mtr mega yacht back on the refit berth by 08:00am will be back quite a few more times this season.

Pictured departing the port of Holyhead on the 26th June was the 34 mtr frigate Shtandart. The 1999 built ship is an exact replica of the Russian flagship of 1703 built by Peter the Great to defend St Petersburg. A link can be used below to the colourful past of this wonderful looking vessel.

Alongside at the refit berth by 08:00 this morning on her first visit this season, Variety Voyager. The 67 mtr mega yacht caters for 72 persons will visit the port of Holyhead another seven times this year.

13th June saw former Lizard lifeboat RNLB David Robinson return to the water after a visit to Holyhead boatyard. The pictures below capture her return alongside the marina ready for departure to a new life since leaving the service.

Two pictures from the 2nd June 2017, Corinthian a regular visitor to the refit berth during cruise season. Then during the same day at the Rio Tinto jetty, Wind Server took up the North end of the jetty only to be joined later in the day by Willem De Vlamingh. all three visitors being seen at Holyhead during the past year.

Two vessels pictured from the 1st June 2017. First up an arrival in to the public quay, Jif Challenger. This 34m multi purpose vessel belongs to Jifmar services of France. Next up a visit to the marina by Smit Romney, Dover was home to Smit Romney which was built in Norway 2003 and is waterjet propelled and can reach a top speed of 35 knots.
